What are these "blood blisters" growing on my baby? |
|
My baby has little red bubbles popping up all over his body. He's not covered with them but one pops up periodically and they are growing and becoming larger. The existing ones are not going away and I've asked my baby's doctor numerous times and she does not know nor does she seem concerned. They rise up above the skin similar to a blood blister but they do not look quit the same. They are bright red, appose to a blood blister being a darker shade. They are slowing getting larger and he is getting more and more as he ages. He is only 3 months old and already has 7 in different spots of his body (leg, shoulder, neck, ear, belly, private area, etc) They do not swell or look infected. The only thing I can compare it to is a very bright red mole. What is this and can they be removed? I have gotten another opinion and the doctor told me to simply keep an eye on them. I have yet to get an answer as to what they are and what is causing them and I am scared to death! A:I would suspect that it could be infantile hemangioma. You can look at google images. The more severe ones will scare you - however, don't let it. Those are typically there from birth & make up a very small group of the children who have them. I have two kids in my family that have them - one on each side & they were born with them (in "good" spots that don't show much & they generally resolve by the age of 10. There are many cases where all they look like is small bright red blisters that appear. They are typically benign & require no treatment as long as they do not appear near the eyes, nose, mouth, genitals, etc. Take a look here too - NOT that the grouping of the top 4 pictures, but the one a bit down with a baby's trunk shown. If it looks like that, it might be hemangioma. I would ask to see a dermatologist to confirm of course, but I thought that might help. If that is the case, they are *usually* not painful at all. http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-car…Newer news items:
