Anyone have any tips for easing diaper rash?

My 6 month old woke up today with a terrible rash (I think it may be related to his teething as my daughter used to get a rash when she was teething though not quite this bad). He SCREAMED and screamed when I tried to wipe him- it was really awful. I've changed his diaper (we use cloth diapers) more often than usual and applied a diaper rash cream. But he's still in so much pain. :( He can't sit without screaming and if we hold him anywhere near his bottom he starts to yell.

Anyone have any tips for easing it? Leaving him diaper-free only seemed to make him cry more. It is _slightly_ better than it was this morning but he's still clearly in pain. He's spent a lot of the day comfort nursing which is fine by me but I'd rather he wasn't hurting, obviously!

Thanks for any help :)

A:

Any chance it's a yeast rash...? Doing a Google image search for "yeast diaper rash" will fetch up a lot of unhappy pix of yeast-riddled baby bums and you can figure out from that if that's what you're dealing with -- in which case, off to the drugstore for an OTC anti-fungal cream as that'll shift it quickly (and the usual diaper rash creams won't do jack).
